Our Story

How it all started...

Embark Church began in the upstairs room of Jud and Cathy Jordan’s house in mid 2013. Having a deep passion for helping people spiritually grow, Jud began teaching 12 people that desired “deep discipleship,” that is, to intensely learn more about and take on the character of Jesus in everything they do. For the next year, he poured into this group, who in turn, poured into others. Over the next year, other people began joining the weekly small group teaching and by the summer of 2014, Embark had outgrown Jud and Cathy’s upstairs room.
Realizing a church was forming, the group decided to launch a worship service and begin announcing the church's presence to the community. Embark was gifted the use of a building downtown where the Orangeburg Highway Patrol is currently stationed. Within six months, Embark had outgrown this building. Understanding that the YMCA has a long-standing tradition of allowing church plants to use their facilities, Embark began meeting in the local Orangeburg YMCA.
In another act of God, in June 2018 Crestview Baptist Church, located at 3600 Columbia Road, donated without cost all of their property and facilities to Embark to be our permanent location.  Most of this 22 member church joined Embark’s congregation.  As of October 21, 2019, after planning with architects, contractors and many others for over a year, we began the $1.5 million renovation. We are planning our Grand Opening of our permanent facility in August 2020, where Embark will begin the next season of life in making a difference for the Kingdom of God in Orangeburg!
