Embark's Tithing Challenge

Malachi 3:6-12 ESV - “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.

The tithing challenge is not about money. It is about our heart. Tithing is a way God develops our character, breaks us of ourselves, tears down the idol of money, moves us from fear into faith and positions us to receive His blessings. This challenge is for everyone regardless of whether you are tithing or not. If you are tithing, it is an opportunity to reconnect with seeing yourself the way God sees you - as a steward of His resources.

The Tithing Challenge

The tithing challenge involves getting our financial house in order by taking 3 actions:
1. Discuss stewardship with our spouse or self. A steward sees everything as God's and that it has been entrusted to us to manage. Click here to listen to Jud's sermon on stewardship and tithing here: Stewardship and Tithing Sermon

2. Develop a budget. Budgeting tells our money where it is going to go, not it telling us where it will go. If you need help in developing a budget, click here: Create a simple budget.

3. Pray about creating a tithing category in your budget. Remember that which is not budgeted, will not happen.
