Welcome to our renovation webpage!  This is the place where to stay up-to-date on where we are in the renovation process! Here you will find three important items.  The graphic provides a quick snapshot of where we are in the process of moving to our permanent location.  The “explanation of the steps” will give you more detail of the objective of each step and what is specifically involved.  The video provides an up-to-date explanation of the how we are progressing through the steps.  We produce these videos monthly.  So stayed tuned and get involved!



Explanation of Renovation Steps

Step 1: Receive concept drawings.

Step 2: Receive schematic drawings. – The objective of this step is to determine WHAT we are doing. These drawings (1) “drill down” into the interior and exterior layout of the property, placement mechanical systems and address potential and possible issues, (2) help us select a contractor and bring them in at the end of the process in order to refine our budget, and (3) engage with the county to do a preliminary review of code and permitting requirements. Estimated time is 3 months.

  • Met with Orangeburg code officials on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.
  • Still working with Orangeburg county permitting office to get coding requirements. This is the longest part of the process.
  • Sold the parsonage on April 10, 2019. 

Step 3: Select and involve a contractor.

  • Contractor selected on April 8, 2019. 

Step 4: Receive design development plans. – This step is a further refining of the schematic drawings and designed to give enough info to the contractor to build. This is where we: (1) make any final interior floorpan and exterior changes, (2) determine aesthetic final touches, and (3) review and finalize the budget using the contractor.

  • Received plans in May 2019.

Step 5: Receive construction plans. – This step is where we are ready to begin construction. It includes (1) finalizing the budget and (2) submitting to the county for permitting. Estimated time is 2 months.

  • Construction plans completed on September 6, 2019.
  • Embark will review plans with our architect and contractor on September 24, 2019.

Step 6: Send construction plans to county for permitting and approval.

Step 7: Renovation begins. – Estimated time is 6 months.

Step 8: County inspects.

Step 9: County issues and we receive Certificate of Occupancy.
